All the Best Cryptocurrency Apps In One Article

binance

The crypto market has grown a lot in the last few years. As a result, crypto enthusiasts now have a wide range of apps they can take advantage of, no matter whether they want to buy a new NFT, exchange Bitcoin Cash for DOGE, buy Bitcoin, or earn interest on their digital assets. However, not all cryptocurrency apps are equally good: some have horrible UI, some charge outrageous fees, and others are outright scams.

Combing through all the apps available on the App Store and Google Play can be quite a daunting task, so we have decided to make a list of the best crypto apps to help you navigate that space. The apps are divided into categories based on their primary function, but please note that many of them can be used for multiple purposes. Let’s start with cryptocurrency exchanges!

Best Cryptocurrency Exchange Apps for iOS and Android

Cryptocurrency exchanges are usually the first thing crypto newbies seek out. As a result, users have quite a lot of options when it comes to choosing the app for converting their coins and tokens.

What Are Cryptocurrency Exchange Apps?

Despite what the name suggests, cryptocurrency exchanges are used for more than just converting one crypto to another. Most of them also help users to buy and sell cryptocurrencies.

In most cases, crypto exchange apps are no different from the web versions of the same services, and some of them even have additional features and provide extra benefits, like cashback. They are a convenient and fast way to buy, sell, and exchange cryptocurrencies.

Binance Lite

Binance is probably the most popular crypto service and is rightfully considered to be one of the best cryptocurrency exchanges. Although it is mostly famous for its full-featured advanced trading platform, the company has also recently designed a simplified and streamlined version of its cryptocurrency app called Binance Lite.

Binance Lite is what users see when they first open the exchange’s app: it can be toggled off at any time, but most crypto newbies will probably choose to keep it. The new interface makes it much easier for new users to navigate the application and get acquainted with some of Binance’s features.

Although Binance Lite doesn’t have all the features its big brother has, it is still fully functional: one can use it to easily exchange, buy, and sell digital currencies. Binance Lite comes with the same perks its original version does, too: great rates, low fees, and more. Many users consider it to be the best crypto exchange.

ProsCons✔ Great for beginners➖ Limited features✔ Includes Binance Earn, a way for passive earning➖ A complicated verification process

Changelly: the Best Crypto Exchange for Beginners

Changelly is a reputable instant cryptocurrency exchange that has been on the market since 2015. It allows its users to convert, buy, and sell over 200 crypto assets and supports dozens of fiat currencies.

Changelly logo

Changelly app prides itself on being fast, efficient, and incredibly easy to use. Unlike Binance Lite, it isn’t just an interface — it’s a full-featured app that has been built from the ground up with beginners in mind. Both the interface and features themselves have been designed specifically to make the user experience as intuitive as possible. Changelly provides everything a crypto investor may need in an easy-to-use and streamlined form. It is the best cryptocurrency exchange for beginners.

App Store: Changelly

Google Play: Changelly

ProsCons✔ Great for beginners➖ Some users have reported receiving “server errors” when using the app✔ Wide range of both fiat and cryptocurrencies✔ Convenient features, such as price alerts and fixed rates

Crypto.com

Crypto.com is a reputable and famous crypto exchange that has listed over 200 cryptocurrencies. It started as a crypto payment platform, so it offers such features as crypto checkouts, Visa cards, and more.

The Crypto.com exchange app is highly secure, as the company not only offers the basics such as 2FA but also FDIC (Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation) insurance on USD balances and insurance against theft and damage.

Unlike most other apps on this list, Crypto.com does not aim to be beginner-friendly — for example, it hardly provides any educational guides and articles. However, if you are a more advanced crypto user, this app can be perfect for you. It is deservedly considered one of the best cryptocurrency exchanges.

ProsCons✔ Low fees➖ Can be a bit too complicated for beginners✔ Good selection of coins and tokens➖ Some users have reported receiving constant error messages and experiencing glitches

Gemini

gemini

Gemini is known by many as the most secure cryptocurrency exchange, gaining such a reputation for a good reason: it has a clear-cut focus on the safety of its users’ funds and data. The exchange was founded by the Winklevoss twins, famous crypto billionaires.

Gemini provides its users with an easy-to-use, secure, and elegant way to purchase and exchange digital assets. The app combines advanced features, such as automatic scheduled recurring crypto purchases, price alerts, an interest-earning program, and more.

Gemini is especially great for US users: they can pay for purchases in crypto in over 30,000 locations across the country.

ProsCons✔ Additional features, such as Gemini Earn, a way to earn interest on your crypto assets➖ Doesn’t support as many cryptocurrencies as its competitors✔ High level of security➖ Some users have reported the app to have slow processing time frames✔ Smart watch compatibility

SimpleSwap

SimpleSwap is an incredibly user-friendly crypto app that allows users to exchange, buy, and sell crypto in a quick and easy way. It has over 400 cryptocurrencies listed on its services and supports six fiat currencies.

True to its name, this app made exchanging crypto incredibly simple: users don’t need to create an account or go through verification to use it. The whole exchange process on SimpleSwap has been designed with crypto newbies in mind, so there are no hidden functions or complicated features that can confuse those who are new to the market.

SimpleSwap offers a special Loyalty program: users that hold over 2000 SWAP (SimpleSwap Coin, the exchange’s utility token) can receive a cashback for every single exchange made on the platform. The cashback is earned and paid in BTC.

ProsCons✔ A profitable Loyalty program➖ Lack of advanced features✔ Extremely user-friendly

Best Cryptocurrency Trading Apps for iOS and Android

Cryptocurrencies are by and large high-risk, high-reward assets. Pretty much everyone who at least somewhat keeps up with crypto market news knows how volatile coin and token prices are. Even big digital currencies like Bitcoin and Ethereum can have drastic price movements in a single day. With digital assets being able to offer insane profits, it’s no surprise that crypto trading has become quite so popular.

What Are Cryptocurrency Trading Apps?

Crypto trading apps are the best option for both people that are just starting to dabble in crypto day trading and those who are already experienced and just want to keep up with the market on the go.

Trading is an advanced activity and requires having an understanding of the market and the assets you’re interested in. That said, most cryptocurrency trading apps are designed to be beginner-friendly, publish tons of guides, and give users a riskless way to check out their platforms via demo accounts. Some of them even provide you with an investment advisor in the form of either a specialized manager, support team, or a community of crypto analysts.

While the trading terminals presented in crypto trading apps will never match web and PC versions, they have their own perks. They are concise and clear yet allow users to take advantage of all the same features available in the non-app versions of the platforms.

Robinhood

Robinhood

Robinhood isn’t just the most popular trading app: it’s the platform that arguably made trading mainstream. When it first came out, thousands of people suddenly gained easy access to the previously rather closed-off financial markets. The commission-free intuitive trading experience that Robinhood provides has enticed a lot of people into trying out investment and day trading.

Robinhood doesn’t offer that many cryptocurrencies, but it has all the biggest ones: BTC, ETH, DOGE, and more. It can be the best app for you if you do not intend to dabble in altcoin trading and just want to build a stable and diversified portfolio that includes assets besides cryptocurrencies.

ProsCons✔ Excellent UI and UX➖ Multiple users have reported encountering app freezes✔ In-app analyst ratings and relevant news➖ Very few cryptos listed✔ Robinhood also offers non-crypto assets: stocks, options, and ETFs

eToro

EToro is an incredible one-stop-shop crypto app that is particularly famous for its splendid trading platform. It has all the features any cryptocurrency trader may need and even more: eToro is particularly famous for the multiple ways in which traders can interact with each other, sharing investment tips and ideas. eToro provides all its users with a demo account with $100,000 to try out all the features and practice cryptocurrency trading in a riskless environment.

In addition to trading, you can also use eToro to make quick and easy crypto purchases and exchanges. The app has a user-friendly interface and is very beginner-friendly. It doesn’t charge any fees for deposits and crypto purchases, so you can start trading right away without having to worry about any extra costs.

ProsCons✔ Low fees➖ No withdrawals to private wallets✔ Intuitive interface➖ Some users have reported that eToro’s price charts can be inaccurate✔ Regulated by nine financial authorities, including FCA and ASIC

Binance

Binance, a quick and feature-rich crypto app, is considered by many the best cryptocurrency exchange. It is certainly the most popular — its daily trading volume is roughly five times higher in comparison to its closest competitor, Coinbase.

We’ve already talked about it as an app for converting crypto, but Binance is first and foremost a trading platform — and an excellent one. Binance has all of the most advanced trading features, such as margin trading, futures, and more. It also has a clear and transparent fee structure.

ProsCons✔ Excellent trading terminal➖ Some users have reported frequent crashes✔ Reliable and highly secure➖ Not very beginner-friendly✔ A wide range of crypto pairs

Changelly PRO

Changelly PRO is a fully-featured trading platform and a part of the Changelly ecosystem. Just like the company’s instant exchange, PRO was designed with crypto beginners in mind, yet it packs quite a punch underneath its easy-to-use interface.

Changelly PRO combines an intuitive trading experience with advanced trading features, such as margin and futures trading. The app also features a dynamic trading fees system, allowing you to earn more the more you trade.

All you need to start trading on Changelly PRO is to create an account — user verification is only required for large trades and accessing advanced features, such as leverage. Additionally, users that passed verification can enjoy lower fees.

ProsCons✔ Intuitive interface and sleek design✔ Wide range of trading pairs➖ Lower liquidity compared to main competitors✔ Advances features, such as margin trading and futures

HitBTC

hitbtc logo

HitBTC is a popular and reliable cryptocurrency exchange that was launched back in 2013. The app has extremely fast processing time frames and is famous for its signature core engine, which is pretty much unmatched when it comes to transaction clearing speed and order matching algorithms.

HitBTC offers a wide selection of crypto pairs for its users to choose from and has high liquidity. All HitBTC accounts are protected by API keys and PIN codes to make sure all user funds remain where they belong — in crypto wallets of their rightful owners. Overall, it is one of the best crypto apps for trading on the market.

ProsCons✔ Wide range of cryptocurrencies➖ Not very beginner-friendly✔ Low fees➖ Complicated withdrawal process

Best Cryptocurrency Wallet Apps for iOS and Android

No matter whether you want to buy, sell, exchange, trade, or earn interest on your crypto, you will always need a crypto wallet. Although some exchanges have in-built custodial wallets (meaning they have access to your private keys), those are not as secure as dedicated crypto wallet apps and, in many cases, are a lot less convenient.

What Are Cryptocurrency Wallet Apps?

Mobile wallets — or cryptocurrency wallet applications — are hot crypto wallets that allow you to access and manage your funds using an app on your smartphone. You will need your own digital wallet if you plan on trading or investing in cryptocurrencies.

Cryptocurrency wallets play the role of banks in the crypto world. They keep your funds secure while you trade, exchange, or pay for goods and services. Hot wallets aren’t the best for hodling large sums of crypto but can still be used to keep a moderate amount of funds.

While mobile wallets aren’t as secure as hardware or paper ones, they are still more than enough to keep your funds safe. Additionally, many of them have extra features, such as in-app exchanges and purchases or even interest earning. If you plan on using your digital currencies quite often, you will definitely need a crypto wallet app.

Exodus

Exodus is one of the best cryptocurrency wallets on the market. It seamlessly combines a strong technical foundation with a sleek and user-oriented interface. Exodus keeps your funds safe by encrypting all your transaction data and private keys on your device, ensuring you’re the only person who will have access to them.

Exodus has a reliable in-app exchange, allowing its users to buy and convert crypto without sacrificing security. It supports dozens of cryptocurrencies, including ICX, ADA, WAVES, and many more, so you won’t have to worry about having to get multiple wallets for your crypto portfolio.

ProsCons✔ Beautiful design➖ In-app transactions have minimums✔ Portfolio tracking tools➖ Confusing navigation and account creation process✔ Quick transactions

Jaxx Liberty

Jaxx

Jaxx Liberty is a quick and reliable crypto wallet that supports over 90 cryptocurrencies. In addition to keeping user funds secure, this cryptocurrency wallet lets you track your portfolio and market price information and follow the latest news. Jaxx Liberty is the best cryptocurrency wallet for users that enjoy trading and want to keep their finger on the pulse of the market.

Jaxx Liberty also features in-app crypto-to-crypto and fiat-to-crypto exchanges powered by Changelly and Simplex. This wallet is non-custodial, meaning you will be the only one in control of your private keys.

ProsCons✔ Uses bank-grade encryption and other extra security measures➖ In-app exchanges and purchases aren’t available for all supported cryptocurrencies✔ Supports 90+ cryptocurrencies

Coinomi

coinomi

Coinomi is an excellent mobile wallet that supports over 125 coins and tokens, including but not limited to BTC, XRP, ETC, and many more. It also supports ERC-20 tokens and other assets on the Ethereum blockchain, BNB, TRON, Mosaics, and Omnilayer. This is a fully anonymous and private crypto wallet app: Coinomi does not require you to pass KYC or any other form of identity verification. Its servers also hide your IP.

Coinomi allows users to make quick, easy, and secure in-app exchanges and purchases, as well as convert their crypto into gift cards. Thanks to the native SegWit implementation, Coinomi can offer users lower fees and faster confirmation times for BTC, LTC, and many other cryptocurrencies.

Overall, Coinomi is the best crypto wallet app if you’re an advanced user that knows what you’re doing — it has a ton of useful features and is extremely secure. However, it is not the easiest one to use, and therefore we do not recommend it for beginners.

ProsCons✔ Dynamic transaction fees➖ Poor UX✔ Supports NFTs➖ Some users have reported seeing obnoxious ads when using the in-app browser ✔ Cold staking

Coinbase Wallet

coinbase

This is a dedicated wallet from one of the best crypto exchanges on the market, Coinbase. This app is one of the best services on the market when it comes to keeping your funds secure. Coinbase wallet supports dozens of cryptocurrencies, including but not limited to BTC, SHIB, LTC, and more.

That said, Coinbase Wallet isn’t just a crypto wallet: it also features a convenient in-app Web3 dApp browser. It can be used to browse and interact with a variety of decentralized applications, from games to marketplaces.

ProsCons✔ Supports ERC-20 tokens and NFTs➖ High fees✔ Provides easy and convenient access to dApps➖ Poor support✔ High level of security

Mycelium

Mycelium Logo

Mycelium is a highly reliable crypto wallet app. It provides users with a secure way to send, receive, and hodl Bitcoin, Ethereum, ERC-20 tokens, and other cryptocurrencies. Mycelium gives you full control over your private keys, ensuring you will always be the only person in control of your funds.

One of the most unique features that Mycelium offers is allowing its users to find other Bitcoin sellers and buyers in their area. Their Local Trader feature helps set up and carry out in-person Bitcoin trades.

ProsCons✔ Support for BIP38 Keys➖ Slow confirmation time frames✔ Compatible with other Bitcoin services➖ Not beginner-friendly

Best Crypto Lending Platform Apps for iOS and Android

Crypto lending isn’t as popular at the moment as, say, NFTs or trading — newbie cryptocurrency investors rarely know it exists. Despite this, there are quite a few projects that push the boundaries when it comes to providing users with crypto loans and deposits.

What Are Crypto Lending Apps?

Lending apps aim to maximize your cryptocurrency investments by either letting you borrow crypto or allowing you to earn interest on your funds. Depositing your funds to a crypto lending account can yield ten times as much profit as making a traditional bank deposit. Lending apps also often offer crypto-backed loans, allowing you to get some stablecoins or USD by using your crypto funds as collateral.

A huge benefit of crypto lending apps is that they rarely require you to go through a credit history check — the high collateral requirement most crypto loans have is sufficient insurance.

Some crypto lending apps also release their own crypto rewards Visa credit cards.

BlockFi

BlockFi is one of the best cryptocurrency apps for not only buying or selling crypto but also earning it. It also was the first crypto lending app to release a Bitcoin rewards Visa credit card, which allows its users to get up to 3.5% cashback in BTC on every purchase.

BlockFi’s registration process is extremely simple, and users can start using the app right after they create an account using their email address. The app has a clear and transparent fee policy and no minimum balances.

It has up to 9% APY on crypto deposits and crypto-backed loans with an APR as low as 4.5%.

ProsCons✔ Great support team➖ Long processing time frames for withdrawals (1-2 days)✔ High level of security➖ Several users have reported frequent crashes✔ Easy to use

Celsius

Celsius is a dedicated crypto lending platform that lets users earn on and borrow over 30 different cryptocurrencies. It offers one of the highest APYs in the industry — up to 15%, and has the lowest fees because it doesn’t charge any. That’s right — Celsius users don’t have to worry about withdrawal, transfer, or origination fees.

The app also has a utility token, CEL, that gives users access to lower borrowing rates and higher interest rates on earnings. You can choose to receive your weekly rewards in this token.

ProsCons✔ APY paid out every week➖ Lengthy identity verification process✔ In-app calculator that shows your potential return➖ Not very intuitive or beginner-friendly

SALT

SALT is a cryptocurrency app that offers crypto-backed loans. It can be used to get cash with cryptocurrencies, such as BTC, ETH, LTC, and many others as collateral.

SALT is an incredibly convenient tool for managing your crypto loans. It allows users to monitor their loan-to-value (LTV) ratio, see balances and recent activity, get real-time crypto prices, and much more — all in one place.

All borrowers are required to have a valid bank account and social security number/FEIN.

ProsCons✔ Intuitive clean interface➖ Poor customer support✔ Beginner-friendly➖ No guarantee: investments may lose their value

What to Look for in a Cryptocurrency App

What if you couldn’t find an app that suits your tastes on our list? Or if your favorite crypto app hasn’t been mentioned, but you want to know if it’s a good idea to keep using it?

There are some general guidelines on how to differentiate a good crypto app from a bad one. Unfortunately, there are quite a lot of scammers in the crypto market and quite a lot of companies that only seek to take advantage of you and your funds.

When it comes to choosing what crypto app to use, there are a few things you could look out for in order to find a service that is right for you and won’t steal your money. Here they are.

Security

Security is undoubtedly the most important thing you should be looking out for — after all, you can’t make a profit or hodl crypto that has been stolen.

There are a few ways to make sure your app of choice is secure: first, read their FAQ and see what security measures they have in place. Things like 2-factor authentication are the basics that should be offered by every reputable crypto app. Additionally, applications that don’t store your deposit are also more secure than those that do.

Next, you should check the reviews and see whether there are any technical issues with the app. Sometimes, they can cause security breaches that can lead to users having their data leaked and/or their funds stolen. How quickly and effectively the company responds to technical difficulties can also show how it may respond to security issues like DDoS attacks in the future.

Rates

There are some exchanges and platforms that claim to have favorable rates when in reality it’s not the case. Since most apps are free and don’t require you to immediately create an account, it can be a good idea to download several crypto apps and compare their rates.

If you are not in a hurry, you should also try to compare their rates over a longer period of time to see how they change in response to various crypto price movements.

Reviews

There’s something you should be aware of when it comes to reviews — crypto has a lot of caveats, and sometimes a tiny mistake could lead to a user losing their funds. What may seem like a company’s malicious action is sometimes just the consequences of the mistake a user has made. This is why it is important for your app of choice to have notices and reminders alerting you of any additional actions you may take during an exchange or a trade.

However, you should pay close attention to reviews that point out technical difficulties and refusals of the company that issued the app to meet their clients halfway. Things like slow processing time frames and app crashes can be detrimental to your success on the crypto market, where mere seconds can decide whether you make a profit or not.

Another thing you should look out for is a total absence of negative reviews — that is simply unnatural. While a crypto app can be good enough to satisfy users fully, it’s the Internet we’re talking about, and there’s always somebody out there who wants to complain. The absence of negative reviews could point towards the company deleting them and possibly buying fake positive reviews.

Fees

Fees are undoubtedly one of the most important factors when it comes to choosing a crypto platform or app. While it goes without saying that the lower the fees, the better it is, we would advise against using apps where the fees are too low… suspiciously low. Some scammers create trading platforms with deceptively low fees to attract users and steal their crypto.

In our opinion, the most important thing users should look for in terms of fees is a clear and concise fee structure. The app should be fully transparent on every charged commission. Hidden fees are a huge red flag, and apps that have been reported to have them should be avoided.

Location

Crypto regulation is a complicated topic. It varies wildly depending on the country, and, as a result, not all crypto services and apps can operate everywhere. Always check whether your app of choice operates in your country before using it.

Range of Currencies

This applies to both crypto and fiat currencies. If you want to purchase crypto, you should look for exchanges and marketplaces that support your national fiat currency — that way, you won’t have to pay outrageously high fiat exchange rates and fees.

While most users will likely never trade or invest in cryptocurrencies other than the popular ones like Bitcoin, Ethereum, or Dogecoin, it is still good to have options to branch out into. Therefore, we recommend looking for apps that support a considerable amount of cryptocurrencies and frequently add new ones — that way, you won’t ever miss out on the next trending coin or token if you decide to invest in it.

Support

Cryptocurrencies are still extremely new, so accidents and mistakes are bound to happen. It’s very important to check whether the crypto app you like has a good support team — you may not need it at the moment, but you never know what may happen tomorrow.

Interest Earning

Many crypto apps give you the option to earn interest on the funds you’re holding on their platform. While that’s not always useful, especially if you only ever use dedicated crypto wallets, it can be a nice bonus. Information on interest earning seems to be always buried underneath the description of other features the platform provides, so it can be a bit hard to find — but we definitely recommend looking into it.

Best Crypto Apps for Beginners

Not all crypto apps are very beginner-friendly — some have complicated, confusing interfaces, some have features that crypto newbies have no use for, and others lack how-to guides and explanations of their features. In our opinion, the best crypto apps for beginners should have a straightforward and intuitive interface, a clear and transparent fee structure, and great 24/7 support.

If you’re just starting out on your crypto journey, we recommend downloading a good crypto wallet first — you can acquire an exchange later. We do not recommend complete beginners to dive headfirst into crypto and Bitcoin trading and lending — we believe that it requires a better understanding of the market and crypto in general.

Here are the crypto applications we consider the most suitable for beginners.

Wallets

Jaxx LibertyCoinbase WalletExodus

The most easy-to-use and beginner-friendly crypto wallets are the custodial ones offered by almost every exchange. If you are only dabbling your toes in crypto and do not plan on investing large amounts yet, you could try using a custodial exchange wallet first.
